A dry powder re extinguisher is an active re protection device used to extinguish or control small res, usually in an emergency situation. They are not suitable for use on a re that is out of control, that may cause danger to the user or that requires re department intervention. Dry powder re extinguishers are excellent all-round re extinguishers, often recommended for use on vehicles and in the home. All dry powder re extinguishers are red with a blue panel, are either ABC or BC rated and are safe to be used on res involving electrical equipment. This type of re extinguisher is not suitable for use in enclosed spaces such as of ces, hotels, schools, etc, as the re- ghting agent creates a cloud that can obscure vision. The contents may also create breath- ing problems.
